MediaTek has announced that its next flagship Dimensity mobile SoC will officially debut on September 22, 2025. The Taiwanese chipmaker has not revealed the official name or other specifications yet. Interestingly, this launch comes just one day before Qualcomm unveils its Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor.

Launch Details:On Chinese social media platform Weibo, MediaTek confirmed the launch date. Rumours suggest the new processor may be called Dimensity 9500, the successor to the Dimensity 9400, which powers devices like the Oppo Find X8 Pro. However, last year’s Dimensity 9400 still lagged slightly behind Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite.

According to Geekbench scores, the Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered Samsung S25 Ultra achieved a single-core score of 2,860, while the Oppo Find X8 Pro with Dimensity 9400 scored 2,648. Meanwhile, a Dimensity 9500-powered Oppo device, believed to be the Oppo Find X9 Pro, reportedly scored 3,394 in single-core tests, indicating a strong performance boost.

2nm Chip Process ConfirmedMediaTek has confirmed successful testing of the 2nm chip process, which could debut in a future processor. While the Dimensity 9500 is expected to continue with TSMC’s 3nm process, the 2nm technology introduces a nanosheet transistor structure that promises higher performance, better power efficiency, and improved production yield.

Samsung is also rumoured to be using its own 2nm process for the upcoming Exynos 2600, which may power the S26 Pro and S26 Edge in 2026.

With MediaTek and Qualcomm launching back-to-back, the race for next-generation flagship mobile processors is heating up, setting the stage for a competitive battle in performance, efficiency, and innovation.
