California – Sept. 17, 2025: At its annual Connect event, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled a bold lineup of AI-powered smart glasses aimed at making eyewear a central part of digital life and reducing dependence on smartphones.
Ray-Ban Display Glasses: The Head-Turner

The highlight of the launch was the Ray-Ban Display glasses, priced at $799. Featuring a tiny display inside the right lens, the glasses project messages, navigation, video calls, and even short videos directly into the wearer’s line of sight.
Other key features include:
Live captions and translations saved in the Meta AI app
Gesture-control wristband for commands like finger taps
6-hour battery life plus 30 extra hours with charging case
Zuckerberg described them as the “perfect form factor” for combining AI with daily life.
Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2: Everyday Smart Upgrade
Priced at $379, the second-gen Ray-Ban Meta comes with:
3K video recording, with slow-motion and hyperlapse updates coming soon
8-hour battery life, plus 48 hours via upgraded case
New conversation focus mode, enhancing audio in crowded spaces
Oakley Vanguard: Sports-Focused Smart Glasses
Designed for fitness and outdoor enthusiasts, the Meta Oakley Vanguard (priced at $499) packs:
Strava and Garmin integration for workout tracking
Wide-view camera for capturing runs, rides, or even surfing
9-hour battery life and water/dust resistance
Zuckerberg noted he has personally tested the Vanguard while surfing, highlighting its rugged design.
Market Push and Competition
Meta is betting big on smart glasses as the next breakthrough gadget. Partner company EssilorLuxottica revealed sales have tripled year-over-year, with a goal of producing 10 million pairs annually by 2026.
Despite some demo glitches at the event, Meta’s growth strategy mirrors the trajectory of past consumer tech booms. With rivals like Google, Samsung, Snap, and Amazon exploring their own versions of AI eyewear, competition in this space is heating up fast.
The new smart glasses will hit U.S. shelves from September 30, 2025, at Verizon, Best Buy, LensCrafters, and Ray-Ban stores.
